My Destiny

I would like to thank God for giving me this ability to write stories about what I have been through and what I have witnessed. May all the glory be to Him because He is more than worthy to receive the glory and honor.

The purpose of writing this is to show God that I haven’t forgotten where I’ve come from. I was nobody but He made me somebody. I had no name but He gave me a name. The other reason I write is to tell people that all things happen for a reason and to appreciate God in good and in bad times. I hope you will be blessed and encouraged as you read.

We were seven in our family, three brothers and three sisters. I really loved my brothers and sisters and they also loved me without limit ‘cause they didn’t know the truth about our family. Only my father and mother knew the truth about our family.

A journey a million miles away starts with a step.

It was early in the morning and I was sleeping. My father came in and told me we were going to go out in the afternoon. I was so excited when he told me that, without knowing that he was taking me where my destine lies.

I got prepared in time because I was so excited. When I was coming out of our bedroom, my dad told me to carry my clothes with me, which was enough for at least two weeks. I asked him why and he told me that he was taking me to a private camp meeting, which was going to last for two weeks.

We started off on our journey from home to Kafue. When we reached Kafue, my father turned to the left and I saw a big shopping mall. There was a small shop for shoe repairing.

He told me to wait in the car and he went inside the shoe repair shop. I was wondering what was happening. He came back after 45 minutes and told me to get out of the car with my clothes.

When we went inside the shop, there was an old man who welcomed me with a big smile. I gave him a smile back. I thought maybe my dad changed his mind and wanted to give my clothes to the shoe repairer as a gift. Maybe they were friends. But unfortunately, he handed me over to him.

At first I was surprised and speechless. I couldn’t even ask him what was happening. He left me there and the man was looking so stressed and confused.

It was time for the man to close shop and we went to his home. We reached his place around 6:30 p.m. and he called a certain woman who came to pick me up. I had no answers to my questions. Immediately, the woman saw me and started crying, and she hugged me. The hug was so warm that I didn’t even want to let her go. It was the first time that I felt so loved, but I didn’t know who the woman was.

I asked the old man what was happening to me. He told me that he was told to take care of me for two weeks and then my father would come and pick me up. This was because my father was going outside the country and he didn’t trust my mother.

The old man handed me to the same woman who gave me the warmest hug that I have received from anyone since I was born. The woman was so beautiful that I was confused and ran out of words. I didn’t know that such beautiful woman existed.

I stayed two weeks with that woman and the old man would come in the evenings and tells stories of the past. I started developing an interest for the man. I even wished that he was my grandfather because the man was so interesting with his stories. During the two weeks of staying with the woman, we got along and she was so loving and caring that I even wished that she was my mum.

Two weeks passed, which I was promised by my dad. I gave him another week but still, he was nowhere to be seen. The holidays were over and the schools were open. I became so worried because I had missed two weeks of school but I didn’t know that my destiny now was much more important than my education.

It was time that I had to confront the woman. I asked her what was happening to me but she only told me she didn’t know what was going on with my dad. I also asked the old man and he told me the same answer. But I wasn’t satisfied with the answers they gave me.

Seven weeks past and my dad was nowhere to be seen. I woke up one morning and confronted the woman again but this time she was just shivering. She tried by all means to avoid my questions but at last, she told me the truth. She was my biological mum.

I asked her why she abandoned me when I was young. She told me that it wasn’t her fault, that she had to abandon me because she was forced to by my father.

I became angry with my father and didn’t want to see him again. She cried a lot and she made me cry also. In the inside, I was so hurt but I became good friends with my mum and each time she asked me how I was doing, in spite of everything that was happening to me, I would say I was okay because strong people know how to keep their life in order. Even with tears in their eyes, they still manage to say, “I’m okay.”

After two months, I heard that my father was in South Africa together with the family. But I didn’t care about that because I found real love. A real mother cannot forsake her children no matter what hardships she may pass through. A mother will always remain a mother. The love of a mother is undeserved. A heart of a mother is like a rose, forever open.

Just like they say, time heals. I have forgiven my father in spite of what he did to me and in spite of forcing my mum to abandon me. All I can wish him is well. I hope my mother can also forgive him and wish him well.
