Blueprints of Blessing: Building Hope for the Next Generation
Hendrix Ng’oma is the Supervisor of Construction and Maintenance for Every Orphan’s Hope, but his role goes far beyond repair. For Hendrix, it’s about partnering with God to restore lives, fueled by the work God did in his own.
Orphaned at a young age, Hendrix lost both of his parents and was raised by his grandfather. “I lost both of my parents at a very tender age. I can’t even remember their faces,” he reflects. His childhood was marked by hardship, as he often herded cattle in the village, unsure of what the future might hold. Even in challenging times, Hendrix felt God’s presence.
He was exceptionally bright, and though his circumstances prevented him from continuing beyond 9th grade, his teachers often asked him to tutor older students. “Even though I couldn’t stay in school, I always felt God’s love through the well-wishers who gave me books and clothes.”
As a young man, Hendrix worked odd jobs. He consistently found himself promoted to supervisor roles, recognizing God’s favor and guidance in his career. He eventually began driving trucks and buses and even worked for a construction company before volunteering at Every Orphan’s Hope. Initially, he helped drive during busy periods, but his dedication soon led to a full-time position in 2019.
Hendrix vividly recalls a life-altering moment while driving staff members to a home visit during the rainy season. The road was flooded, and he assumed they would turn back. Instead, he watched in amazement as MaryAnn and Abigail rolled up their pants and trudged through the water to reach a child. Hendrix followed. When they met the boy who had just returned home from a day of herding cattle, Hendrix couldn’t help but recall his own hopeless days of herding as a young boy. “I looked at that boy and knew he would only have a future through Every Orphan’s Hope.”
Another pivotal moment came when Hendrix accompanied Marcie and Janet to rescue a five-day-old baby from a volatile situation. The community watched as they entered the home, unsure how the mother would react. To everyone’s amazement, a wave of peace came over the mother, and she willingly handed her baby to the staff. Hendrix was in awe. On the drive back, he heard God speak to his heart: Hendrix, I took care of you. Now you can help me take care of these little children. “That’s when I knew I would sacrifice anything for this ministry. My heart joined Every Orphan’s Hope that day.”
In 2022, Hendrix was promoted to oversee all construction and maintenance for the ministry, including leading the Chongwe Family Homes expansion and rebuilding homes 7 and 8. Now 37, Hendrix is not only a dedicated supervisor but also a loving husband and father to three daughters. Despite the long hours, when he returns home, his daughters’ excitement and love always recharge him. “I love being a mentor to my girls and introducing them to the Jesus Christ I’ve known since I was young.”
Hendrix’s mentorship doesn’t end at home. He extends the same care and compassion to all the children of Every Orphan’s Hope, connecting deeply with them because he understands what it’s like to feel lost and alone. Having experienced the deep pain of being orphaned, he now uses both his hands and heart to build a future where these children can dream again—a future filled with hope, resilience, and the promise of something greater. Hendrix knows that it is God who has sustained him through every challenge, and now he works to reflect that same love and provision, helping these children see that God is building their future, too.
