Love Delivered: How Sponsorship Brings Hearts Together

By Jan Bennett, Sponsor

In 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Every Orphan’s Hope (EOH) and meeting Elizabeth, the child my husband and I sponsor. I never dreamed I’d meet her in person, but in August, I found myself on a plane to Zambia, excited to see exactly what puts that beautiful smile on her face.

The day we visited the children’s homes in Chongwe, I was introduced to Elizabeth. She was very shy and quiet. I gave her a necklace inscribed with the word “loved” and told her that when she wears it, I hoped she would remember that I love her, but most of all, that Jesus loves her. In that moment, everything changed. She threw her arms around me and exclaimed that she loved me too. Her face lit up with a radiant smile—the same smile I saw in her photo when I chose to sponsor her, a smile that comes from knowing you’re safe, provided for, and loved.

I learned that Elizabeth loves soccer, helps lead worship, excels in school, and loves Jesus. Her mama, Ruth, affectionately calls her “Professor.” I saw her home, her bed, and the little trinkets she treasures. She lives with her biological brother, and though her biological sister is still in the baby homes, I hope they’ll be reunited soon. But from what I observed, all the children at EOH see each other as brothers and sisters—a huge, happy family.

I also got to meet Lisa, one of the young adults at EOH. Lisa shared that meeting her sponsors in the USA was one of the highlights of her life. She told me that the children know who their sponsors are and pray for them. Many keep their sponsors’ pictures and letters above their beds. Her words inspired me to be more dedicated to communicating with Elizabeth.

Throughout my time in Zambia, I witnessed God’s love at work through Every Orphan’s Hope. I met staff whose paths were prepared by God long before they knew they would be caring for orphans. I heard miraculous stories of how this ministry was built on faith and obedience to the Holy Spirit. And I learned that the best thing the children receive at EOH is the opportunity to meet Jesus.

I am deeply grateful that my husband and I get to be a part of God’s work through our sponsorship of Elizabeth. Every Orphan’s Hope is not just giving children food, shelter, and education—they are giving them love and showing them the way to Jesus.
