A Legacy of Love
At the center of each Family Home in Chongwe is a woman with a remarkable story. These mothers have experienced the grief of widowhood, yet each one has chosen a life of purpose, caring for children who are not her own. They are united by their love for Jesus and their desire to reflect His heart in the way they serve.
Becoming a Mama is no small step. Each woman goes through a rigorous interview and selection process, where her character, spiritual maturity, and ability to nurture are prayerfully considered. The process is competitive, not because of pay or perks, but because of the calling. These women long to live out their faith by opening their homes and hearts to children in need.

Once chosen, Mamas receive ongoing training in trauma-informed care, behavioral management, and Christ-centered discipline. They are never alone in this work. Each one is supported by our committed social work team, our counselors, and Abigail, our caring and capable Family Homes Manager.
Day in and day out, the Mamas oversee the rhythms of home life. They manage meals, maintain routines, and teach life skills that will serve the children well into adulthood. Both boys and girls are equipped to cook, clean, and contribute to the family. In this environment, love is not just spoken, it is lived.
Each morning begins with family prayer, and evenings end with devotional time. The Mamas also gather regularly for prayer and Bible study, encouraged by our chaplains and strengthened through spiritual friendship. Their walk with the Lord is the foundation of their role in the home.

These women are the steady presence our children long for. Through shared meals, evening prayers, and countless small moments of care, they offer healing, hope, and the love of Christ.
