Fish & Loaves

Our Business-as-Mission ventures continue to develop and expand on the Chongwe property. Currently, the primary focus is marketing and selling the matured tilapia fish and launching the startup named Blessings Bread and Bakery.

The farm team in Chongwe is currently harvesting tilapia as needed. As the word gets out, more and more individual customers are coming to request several kilograms of fish at a time. For smaller orders, the team uses a medium size net and throws from the pond’s edge. For larger orders, the team wades into the pond and uses a commercial net. Charles Zulu, Director of Business Initiatives, continues working hard to find large buyers for the remaining stock.

The fish are now full grown!

The bakery is making significant strides to open by the end of March. Charles just completed the final selection of the bakery equipment. The oven, proofer, mixer, molds, racks, and everything else needed to bake delicious bread are now on order! Hendrix Ng’oma, Construction and Maintenance Coordinator, is completing the interior renovation before the equipment is delivered.

The kids are excited to smell fresh bread and rolls baking each morning, and there is no doubt that the entire community will benefit from having fresh bread delivered to the local stores and schools.
